Risc has further developed since then including planting a permaculture roof garden in 2002 which adds to the spectrum of our educational activities and is the inspiration for some exciting local national and international projects. There are over 140 plant species benches and decking made from locally sourced storm felled timber and a greenhouse. The risc roof garden is a small edible roof forest garden developed to demonstrate sustainability and our dependence on plants. The risc roof garden is open to the public on select days throughout the year.

Not only there is a garden on the roof as well there is a fair trade shop and a restaurant downstairs. Tours cost 45 for one hour. Hen the idea of a roof garden at reading international solidarity centre risc began to take shape in 2001 it was a practical response to the problem of a leaking roof and how to provide sound and heat insulation for a conference hall which doubled as a venue for noisy events.
