Dormers in revit you should be able to draw two kinds of dormers.
Type 2 dormers do not have sidewalls and the dormer roof springs from the eaves of the main roof steps for type 1 dormers.
To create a dormer roof we first need to start with the smaller roof portion of the dormer.
Draw a building with a gable roof.
Attach walls to roof 3.
In this example side faces of walls and joined faces of the roof were selected.
Create a void.
You can model this in any of the 3 primary roof modelling methods but in the example i have opted to use the roof by extrusion tool.
Edit the dormer opening to reflect the roof modification as per figure 9.

Well for some reason i can not get it to work.

It has been a while since i had no clue why something would not work but a while back i had one.
Use the join roof tool to join the dormer roof to the primary roof.

Adding a dormer which will involve cutting out a hole in the roof using the dormer tool which leaves a hole in the existing phase view of the roof as well as the new construction view.
You can make a roof cut into an existing roof using component model in place.
Change the visual style back to shaded to show the finished item as in.
