Replacing a bathroom sink valve is rather easy. My water supply valve under the kitchen sink leaks. You may have a built in cabinet under the sink and the valves are generally located in it. Close the new valve.

Under sink shutoff valves also called fixture shutoffs or stop valves allow you to turn off the water to the sink or other fixture without having to use the home s main shutoff. Place a bucket under the old valve. Fortunately a bad shut off valve is extremely easy to replace. As the line fills watch out for leaks.

There are two basic types straight stops and angle stops and these valves normally remain on and are seldom closed functioning maintenance free for years. I am replacing the faucet in my kitchen. Turn the water heater gas valve back to on or flip on the circuit breakers to the electric water heater. Then shut off the upper and lower faucets.

Cut the supply line with a pipe cutter leaving enough room between the escutcheon plate and the cut to allow installation of the valve fitting. Turn on the water supply to the sink once the valve is back in place and the plumbing has been completely re secured. Look under the sink for the two turnoff valves one each for the hot and cold water faucets. If this happens to you you can simply replace the valve with a new valve that matches the old one.

When cutting the supply line cut slowly and gently so. At this point if water is still exiting the valve it will need replacement. The hot and cold water supply under the sink is turned off at the valves. Check the new valves for leaks.

Open the faucet to drain the line. Locate the main water supply valve that is usually located under the skin. It is always better to replace them. Deburr the pipe with a deburring tool.

The water to a kitchen or bathroom sink is supplied through small copper or flexible neoprene tubes from a small control valve called a stop or shut off valve under the sink. These inexpensive little valves rarely get used and when they do sometimes they leak. The cold water supply line from the wall is dripping water slowly. Then open the water main shutoff valve and let the water run until all the air is out of the pipes.

Shut off the water supply. Start by wearing plastic gloves. I have the faucet installed in the sink but not connected to the hot and cold water.
